About the event
You will dye and take home your own three play silks (35"x35" with hand rolled hems) in a full rainbow of colors. Learn about the mordanting process and experience all the colors of nature. Experiment with shibori techniques to create beautiful patterns and designs. Take away printed easy-to-follow instructions for future at-home dying, confidence, and pride in your handwork!
Red / pink - cochineal insect, lives on the prickly pear cactus
Orange - cosmos flowers
Yellow - marigold flowers
Blue - organic indigo
Green - marigold overdyed with indigo
Purple - cochineal overdyed with indigo
Children are welcome with one-on-one parent supervision. Each child must have one parent to accompany them. Each parent/child pair will dye three silks together.
What to pack: snack, lunch, waterbottle, sturdy shoes

Shellie Smith has been an educator in public and private schools for 18 years. She taught handwork grades 1-8 at the Haleakala Waldorf School on Maui from 2010 - 2021.
