On Saturday April 29, MHH hosted the first of a 4-part Hawaiian Cultural Studies series with Kumu Haiku. So much fun!
Kumu Haiku shared his personal biography, about growing up with his maternal grandparents in the traditional ways and inheriting the knowledge and skills of his ancestral lineage. He shared the legend of the coconut; now we know why each one has such a silly face! In just one day, his tremendous offering included his rich storytelling, traditional legends, plant identification, traditional oli, palm frond weaving, and ukulele lesson for all ages to enjoy.
We're blessed, indeed, by this collaboration and look forward to more unique and adventurous educational experiences with Kumu Haiku.
