Join us on Friday, November 18th, from 11am to 2pm in Haiku to learn all about the ancient art of natural dyes. Enjoy this special workshop and casual BYO picnic lunch in an intimate community setting.
Play silks make perfect gifts for children of all ages! They’re a cornerstone piece in open-ended play, look beautiful in your home, and are particularly remarkable as one-of-a-kind gift wrap.
You will dye and take home your own three play silks (35"x35" with hand rolled hems) in a full rainbow of colors. Learn about the mordanting process and experience all the colors of nature. Experiment with shibori techniques to create beautiful patterns and designs. Take away printed easy-to-follow instructions for future at-home dying, confidence, and pride in your handwork!
Red / pink - cochineal insect, lives on the prickly pear cactus
Orange - cosmos flowers
Yellow - marigold flowers
Blue - organic indigo
Green - marigold overdyed with indigo
Purple - cochineal overdyed with indigo
Children are welcome with one-on-one parent supervision. Each child must have one parent to accompany them. Each parent/child pair will dye three silks together.
Registration: $80 per parent/child pair. Call/text Aria to RSVP (907) 529-9624 or email smallisbeautiful.maui@gmail.com. Location details provided upon registration.
